On every song Ledisi sings and sings and sings with an instrument that never fails to impress. Unfortunately, the songs and the rotating producers are not always in alignment with the artist’s considerable gifts. After such a strong, commercially successful major label debut, Lost and Found, the hope was that there would be more chances taken on the follow-up to the Grammy nominated project, not less. Yet, Verve’s predictable move to pair Ledisi with a slew of declining hitmakers was almost the album’s undoing. Luckily, long-time collaborator Rex Rideout along with young and restless production wunderkinds like the Frye Dept and Lorenzo Johnson ride to milady’s rescue, making Turn Me Loose a solid, if uneven affair.
