Super Mario Galaxy 2 (Wii)

Not since the days of the Nintendo Entertainment System has Nintendo been so committed to the Super Mario franchise on its current generation console: 2007 was the year that Nintendo revamped the 3D Mario design with Super Mario Galaxy, and just six months ago the company rebooted the 2D design with New Super Mario Bros. Wii. Just a short wait later, Nintendo’s returned to its first Wii Mario game to give it a second go: there is so much creativity, variety and challenge poured into this sequel. 2007 Super Mario Galaxy was brilliant, but 2010’s Super Mario Galaxy 2 is absolutely amazing.

Dead Space Extraction

The original Dead Space for 360/PS3/PC was a horror game. It was out to scare you, and for the most part gamers that walked the haunted halls of the USG Ishimura were scared, and loved most every minute of it. Dead Space Extraction, brought to the Wii by the newly formed EA Visceral Games and third party developer Eurocom, isn’t out to do what its predecessor accomplished. Instead, Extraction blends first person “light gun” action with a prequel story and plenty of narration. Where Dead Space was out to have you questioning what was behind every corner, Extraction embraces the grim inevitability of the cast and crew. It’s action first, story a close (and contesting) second, and horror a distant and lagging third.
